AUGIE MARCH - Easily my favourite band and albums of this century
with music and songs ranging from sheer spine-tingling beauty to brain rattling sonic bombshells. The first thing to stress is that mainman Glenn Richards loves words. Virtually every song stands on it's own as poetry of a distinctly original kind. Each line is filled sometimes to overflowing with remarkable imagery, astonishing ideas and breath-taking delivery to what, at first, seems like simple musical backing but always turns into an intricate and deeply involving roller-coaster trip. It's not pop, nor is it rock not folk nor indie. I wouldn't call it psychedelic either but it is a fantastical mixture of all these and other stuff too. I could probably spend a week here fumbling for the apt description but not come close to doing this band justice. Just check them out and hopefully become as smitten by this unique & wonderful band as I have:

AVEO -Battery
(Munich '04 coh) 4.00

MARC BACINO - Million Dollar Handshake (US Parasol '03.) 6.00
ANTON BARBEAU - 17th Century Fuzzbox Blues (US Frigidisk '00. Anton treads a unique path defiantly doing his own thing in a most prodigious fashion and has links with Scott Miller, in many ways. Scott helps out on the odd production. It's a beautifully, charming, unpretentious folk-poppy path, revelling in the creative process with no attempts to appeal to any commercial market whatsoever. Artists like this should be given awards!.) 8.00

Not a bad pop CV & naturally his own album reflects all this & is a harmony laden gem) 10.00
JON BRION - Meaningless
(US Straight to Cutout '01. Jon Brion was a member of the magical Grays and has spent all the time since helping out other artists incl: Wallflowers, Aimee Mann, the Eels, Robyn Hitchcock, Jellyfish, Grant Lee Buffalo, and Elliott Smith, to name but a tiny few. He has also been holding regular court at LA's famous Largo club, where he has become legendary for his remarkable musical antics and improvised shows.Just like Brad Jones, he's been far too busy to find time for his own solo work, and just as with BJ, this album is pretty damn amazing. Take a line through the Grays and Jellyfish and you'll get the idea. Highly inventive, melodic as hell with all kinds of sonic tricks and treats. Very highly recommended, indeeed!) 12.00

With a beautiful clear voice, Byrds meet Chris Von Sneidern at a Beatles convention- pop leanings and a mastery of playing and production that only the few can rival, for this latest outing he has also thrown in his love of all things Tom Petty to good effect. Very highly recommended!) 10.00
